During your contact lens exam, your optometrist performs a contact lens-specific eye exam, assesses your eye health, and asks questions to determine what type of lens will work for your vision.
We’ll take a few measurements of your eyes to customize the fit of your new contact lenses. Once we have the information we need, your contact lenses will be created, and we’ll call you back when they’re ready.
When you come to pick up your contact lenses, we’ll assess the fit and teach you how to care for your new lenses. Depending on whether you’ve chosen daily disposable or rigid gas-permeable lenses, you may need to clean them each night in a contact lens solution.
It’s important to always insert contact lenses with clean hands and avoid using tap water to clean your lenses.

There are 2 main types of contact lenses: soft and rigid gas-permeable. Both have their advantages, and which is right for you is often a personal decision. Modern technological advancements have allowed both types to be suitable options for multiple vision and eye problems.
We’ll guide you through the contact lens process and make recommendations based on your prescription, eye health, and other considerations, such as astigmatism or irregular corneas (the front part of the eye).
Beyond the different types of contact lenses, there are also different treatments available to customize your contact lenses to your everyday life. We’ll explain these options in detail during your contact lens exam.
Soft contact lenses are made of malleable plastic polymers, allowing flexibility and a close fit over the cornea. They are the most common type, often preferred by new wearers due to their ease of use. This close fit not only improves comfort but also helps prevent foreign objects like dust or sand from getting under the lens.
Advantages of soft lenses include:
Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses are durable plastics that improve oxygen flow to the eye. Although it may take some time to get accustomed to wearing RGP lenses, they generally provide sharper vision and can be a better choice for higher prescriptions or astigmatism.
Advantages of RGP lenses include:
